Here are some notes from this past weeks preaching outlining the five purposes of Marriage that I have seen identified in the bible.
1) Partnership - Genesis 1:10,12,18,21,26; Genesis 2:18; Ecclesiastes 4:9
2) Procreation - Genesis 1:28; Malachi 2:15-16; Psalm 127:3-5; Psalm 128:3; Jeremiah 29:5-6
3) Purity - Hebrews 13:4; 1 Corinthians 7:2,3-4,9
4) Pleasure - Song of Solomon Ch. 4-7; Proverbs 5:15-19
5) Picture - Ephesians 5:22-24,25-32,33
We just finished our family conference and what a great event it was. We had great attendance, a great learning experience, and great fellowship.
During the conference we learned the 7 keys to a GREATTT marriage.....
G - God
R - Relationships (with people whose lives are about God)
E - Expectations (high but realistic)
A - Agape love
T - Time
T - Truth
T - Trust
The seminar was a blessing and received a lot of support from the congregation.
In keeping with our focus on the family and marriage I wanted to share from the sermon today these 10 (actually 11) marriage tips that would be great for your marriage.....
10 Marriage Tips
1) Attend a Bible preaching church on a weekly basis.
2) Attend Church regularly and pray together as husband and wife. (I Peter 3:1-7)
3) Realize that your marriage is a covenant and not a contract. (Malachi 2:14)
4) Make Christ the center of your marriage. (Ephesians 5:20)
5) Treat your spouse as a gift from God. (Genesis 2:22)
6) Put Christ 1st, each other 2nd, and the children 3rd in your relationship. (Mathew 6:33)
7) Resolve conflicts right away. (Ephesians 4:26)
8) Never argue in front of the children. (Colossians 4:6)
9) Be quick to say "I was wrong" when needed. (Proverbs 6:3, James 4:10)
10) Realize your spouse is your best friend. (Proverbs 17:17)
11) My marriage will be what I put into it not what I take from it. (Philippians 2:4)
